You may have read in the press yesterday that Cllr John Cherry, the current West Sussex County Councillor for the Midhurst Division, which includes Bepton, has resigned from the Conservative Party. This followed remarks reported in the Mail on Sunday on 21st April about the proposal for a new boarding school at the former St Cuthman’s school near Stedham. Some people have asked whether he will continue to stand in the forthcoming County Council election.
Under UK Electoral law it is not now possible for him to withdraw his nomination as a candidate at this stage; nor is it possible for this to be done by others. He will therefore stand as a candidate and his party will be shown as the Conservatives on both postal votes and ballot papers. Further information about this can be found by clicking here
Other candidates standing in the election are as follows:
Bob Green, Liberal Democrat
Margaret Guest, Independent
Pamela Hayton, UKIP
Gordon McAra, Independent
Frances Turner, Labour
Details of all the candidates were in the latest edition of the Midhurst and Petworth Observer.
