Severals Sand Pit Sites not in Draft Plan

West Sussex County Council (WSCC) and the South Downs National Park Authority (SDNPA) are working in partnership to prepare a new Joint Minerals Local Plan for West Sussex. This will replace the existing Minerals Local Plan (2003).

A large area of The Severals (173 acres) was initially identified by WSCC and the SDNPA as a possible sand working site in their preparation for the Minerals Plan. The draft Plan was approved by the SDNPA Planning Committee on 10th March. The site at The Severals is not included in the draft Plan.

WSCC and the SDNPA are now consulting on the content of the draft Plan for a nine week period, which will end on Friday 17 June 2016. The documents can be viewed at West Sussex libraries and County, District or Borough Council offices, including the South Downs National Park office in Midhurst. You can also view the consultation documents, the draft Plan and information on how to respond online at www.westsussex.gov.uk/mwdf.

The Minerals and Waste Development Scheme sets out the timetable for preparing the Minerals Plan. However, this has been revised as follows:

Draft Plan consultation : April/May 2016; Draft Plan to be submitted: December 2016/January 2017; Hearing: June 2017; Adoption by April 2018.
